Since the beginning of SWL Atelier, the idea has been simple: to look at what already exists and imagine what it could become. Vintage garments with beautiful fabrics, strong tailoring and a history of their own are taken apart and reconstructed into something new.
Until now, every SWL Atelier piece was made entirely by me. From sourcing and designing to cutting, sewing and finishing. But as SWL grows, so does the desire to take the Atelier to a next level. That’s where Remake Society came in.
Based in Rotterdam South, Remake Society specialises in giving existing textiles a new purpose through craftsmanship and technical expertise. For our first capsule collection, I selected the vintage blazers and developed the designs and creative direction, while the craftsman of their atelier translated these ideas into the finished pieces.
The result is a small series of one of a kind jackets. Each one starts with a different vintage blazer, which means the fabric, details and character can never be reproduced in exactly the same way.
For me, this collaboration is also about finding a different way to grow. SWL has never been about producing more for the sake of producing more. It is about selection, transformation and finding beauty in what already exists.
Working with Remake Society allows me to step further into my role as curator and designer, while working with people who bring their own craftsmanship to the process.
